My Do-Over Moment - A Definite Epic Fail
If I could do it over...
I have naturally curly hair. Not the pretty ringlets, but the in between really curly and really straight. The type where if it air dries, it's just fluffy and frizzy. The type where you have to do something to it no matter what. If you have this hair, you know what I mean.
I didn't really know how to do my hair at that age. I had a perm from the time I was in second to sixth grade. Yeah, A PERM! And then there weren't straighteners yet. Well they were starting to come out, but were no where near where they are now. So all I had was pretty much a curling iron which I used to semi straighten and curl all at the same time. Not the best idea...
My husband looks at those pictures from middle school - the man who tells me I'm beautiful and would never change me - and even comments that it was probably better he didn't know me in middle school...thanks. But it does help me better appreciate how I look now and the great blessing that straighteners are. Amazing!
So here are some pictures from those years so you can see for yourself. It's been enough time where I can laugh at it too. :-)
My family and I. As you can see, my sisters have the same predicament as me.
Oh man...8th grade. I think I have blue shiny eye shadow on too...
My 14th birthday. Bangs aren't a good idea for me.
And this is my daughter when she was 6 months old. She's doomed! Both her parents have curly hair! Actually her curls are really cute and now she has a mom who knows how to tame the mane. Plus she has access to better hair tools. Lucky girl...

Good thing we went through our two side-bun phase in high school to make up for it :) hahaha
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, I feel your pain with the awkward hair! Except some days I feel like I haven't quite made it out of my awkward hair days just yet!
How adorable. I expected far worse, based on your description, than what the pictures showed. You were adorable...just like your curly haired little girl :)
ReplyDeleteHa ha I love it! I used to have my older sisters get out the iron and they'd straighten my hair on the ironing board. So glad we have quality straighteners these days!
