The first few days after Lil Sis was born were a little crazy, but also really fun. With the 4th of July that next week, lots of things were going on and lots of family were in town. There was only one things that didn't go very well...have you heard of hand, foot, and mouth disease?
I had. I remember my sister getting it when we were kids, but didn't really remember much about it, just that she had it. Well my daughter had come in contact with another child who had HFM disease the Monday before I had Lil Sis. The disease doesn't really show up until 3-6 days after catching it. It starts with a fever. And the night Lil Sis was born, my mother-in-law called to tell me, Bammer had a fever. Great...
And sure enough, the next day she started getting little blister like sores around her mouth which spread to a few on her arms, legs, bottom of her feet, and bum. Luckily most of the other sores were just bumps and not so much blisters, but her poor little mouth was covered. And luckily they didn't get inside her mouth which causes children to not want to eat or drink. She was a little sluggish the next few days, but overall she acted pretty happy.
Here's what her poor little face looked like...
However, we wanted to keep her away from the baby so we rotated her from my in-laws' to my parents' over the next few days. And she couldn't touch Lil Sis which was frustrating. This thing is super contagious. And sadly the Bammer's two cousins caught it from her, but it sounds like they didn't get it as bad. phew! I so wanted the first few days to be a great bonding experience for my girls! But we couldn't really let that happen.
On the 3rd we celebrated my mother-in-law's birthday and all of Alan's siblings and their families were there, lots of extended family, and friends too, expect Bammer. I felt so bad because she would have loved to be with the other kids and played. We missed her.
The 4th of July we spent with my family and enjoyed being outside in the shade that evening while my family played catch and I held the baby and watched. The Bammer also wore her cute 4th of July outfit that I made her and Lil Sis wore a cute navy blue onesie that my mom just bought. I only had 1 or 2 newborn outfits because Bammer only fit in them for about 2 weeks when she was born and could fit into 0-3 months, but Lil Sis definitely needs them! So my mom bought a few outfits for her and that was one of them.
We missed the Tanner family reunion since we had a newborn, but got to see a lot of them Sunday since Alan's aunt and uncle just came back from being a mission president in Russia for the last 3 years and had a homecoming gathering at their house. So that was a lot of fun especially because the cousins Alan's age are starting to head to other parts of the nation for grad school and we won't get to see them very often over the next few years.
Even though we missed the reunion, we still got t-shirts! The theme was "He lives in you" in memory of Grandpa Tanner who passed away a few years ago. They celebrated his life and shared memories of this great man who now has over 250 descendants. There are currently 106 great grand children, with 6 on the way, and many more to come. What else would you expect from a man who had 13 children???
The Bammer is spending one last night at my in-laws and is coming back this evening. She should be fully recovered and we're excited to have her home! I actually did 2 days all by myself with Bammer and Lil Sis last week. I'll let you know how that went Thursday after the link party. ;-)

Oh I do hope your daughter feels better soon. My boys had HFM about 6-8 weeks ago. It was not a pretty week at our house! Although they recovered and feel fine, the final phase is happening now in which fingernails and toenails sort of fall off. It's gross and I hate to even write it on your comments...but just so you know what you might expect later on and not be worried that your daughter has caught something else. Sorry you are all going through this!
